She asked for “the Oldest Dog you have — and the one no one wants to Adopt”!

Gorgeous look at the smile on that dogs face ❤️

That dog is gonna give her so much joy, it will eclipse the sorrow when her fur baby goes to heaven to chase butterflies till they meet again
A wonderful woman and glad Jake got her as his mum. 🙏🐾🐾

Melani Andrews walked into Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California, with a very specific request.
She did not ask for the youngest dog.
She did not ask for the healthiest dog.
She asked for “the oldest dog you have, and the one no one wants to adopt.”

Shelter staff knew exactly who needed her.
His name was Jake. He was 12 years old, had come into the shelter a couple of months earlier as a [st.ray], and had the kind of [me.dic.al] problems that make many people walk past a kennel without stopping. He had bad [sk.in], bad teeth, and an untreatable terminal [ca.ncer].

Front Street spokesperson Bobby Mann said Jake was a good boy, but because of his age and health issues, he had been overlooked.
Melani understood what it meant to [hu.rt].
Her husband had [di.ed] in January. One month later, her dog [di.ed] too. After so much [lo.ss], she did not go looking for an easy adoption. She went looking for a dog who needed someone, and maybe, in her own quiet way, someone she needed too.

When she met Jake, she thought he was cute. They spent a little time together, and then she made her decision.
He was coming home.
Jake settled in quickly. He was not well enough for big beach trips or long adventures, but he found joy in smaller things: short walks around the neighborhood, time in the backyard, warm blankets, soft food, and sleeping near the person who had chosen him.

Look how happy they both are 😭🥹❤️

Because his teeth were sensitive, Melani warmed his water to room temperature. She softened his kibble with chicken broth so it would be easier for him to eat. She gave him coconut-infused baths to help soothe his raw skin. She watched him wiggle with happiness at mealtime, then curl himself under a fleece blanket like a little dog burrito.

There was no promise of how much time they would have.
But Melani knew that from the beginning.
Her goal was not to save Jake from [de.ath]. It was to make sure that before his life ended, he finally knew what comfort, safety, and love felt like.

She said: I wanted to give a dog who didn’t have a chance, a chance.
And that is exactly what she did.
She gave an [un.wanted] senior dog the good life.
And he gave a [gr.iev.ing] woman someone to love again.

She has a heart of gold and he deserves love care and happiness in his life.❤️
It’s an amazing, beautiful, inspiring words, we need more people like you in this world.

God bless you.🙏
Such a very kind thing to do.❤️
I’m sure he found comfort and love.❤️❤️
