She was lying in murky water near Interstate 240 and Pennsylvania Avenue, wrapped in a tarp with metal over it.
Oklahoma City Animal Welfare officers pulled her out and rushed her for emergency veterinary care.

The dog was less than a year old. Angel Fund OKC gave her the name Adaline, or Addie for short.
At Neel Veterinary Hospital, the staff saw how badly she had been [hu.rt]. Addie was covered in filth and [fle.as], with [sw.ell.ing] and [bru.ising] across her body.

Then X-rays revealed five or six [bu.llet] fragments lodged in her head.
Her lungs were [br.uis.ed] too. The veterinary team began giving her fluids and monitoring her breathing, sinuses and neurological condition in the ICU. So far, the [fr.agme.nts] have not been found to have entered her brain.

Misty Wilson of Angel Fund OKC described Addie as a sweet but frightened dog. She walks with her head lowered, avoids eye contact and is [af.raid] of having her head touched.
Despite everything she endured, Addie made it through her first night in care.

She is still receiving intensive treatment, and a foster home is ready for her when she is strong enough to leave the hospital.
For now, her caregivers are watching over a young dog who survived long enough for someone to find her.
