Leia was Fr.eez.ing, St.arv.ing, and Still trying to keep her Baby alive!

She’s already proven she loves deeply. Imagine if humans had this ability everywhere ❤️

Luke has already found his family, and now Leia deserves hers too. After [surviving] the cold, protecting her baby, and learning to trust again, she should never have to [fi.ght] for warmth or safety another day in her life.
Separating them after seeing how much she loved her puppy is crazy.

During an extreme cold front in Texas earlier this year, independent rescuer Zuly Ventura Vasquez was out searching for stray dogs who had nowhere safe to go. While many people were trying to keep their homes warm, rescuers were worried about the dogs [left] outside with no shelter, no blankets, and no way to escape the cold.

That is when Vasquez found Leia.
The mama dog was extremely thin and curled tightly around her only puppy, a little white baby later named Luke. His head was tucked beneath her belly while she used what little strength she had left to shield him from the [fr.eez.ing] weather.

Leia did not have a warm bed.
She did not have food waiting nearby.
She did not have anyone protecting her.
But she still protected him.

Vasquez knew the mother and puppy would not [su.rvi.ve] long like that, so she contacted “Houston K-911 Rescue”. They immediately agreed to take both dogs in. The photo of Leia wrapped around Luke later spread online, touching people across the country because it showed something every dog lover understands: a mother’s love does not [di.sappe.ar] just because she is homeless.

After receiving care, including heartworm treatment, Leia and Luke were transferred from Texas to Colorado through Up Pup and Away. Luke was old enough to be independent and quickly found a foster family who fell in love with him and adopted him.
Leia also began her own healing journey.

In foster care, she had to learn things she had never known before: slippery floors, elevators, apartment life, regular meals, safety, and rest. Her foster mom, Tory Shulman, said Leia gained weight, began asking for belly rubs, loved sleeping, and seemed like she had never truly been able to rest before.

That detail says everything.
A dog who spent her life surviving finally learned what it meant to be safe.
Leia is still waiting for her forever home, but she is warm now. Loved now. Protected now.
And after everything she did to keep her baby alive, that is exactly what she deserves.

They should have been kept together… Please let this amazing mother find a loving caring pampered home please.
Bless her sweet momma heart ❤️🙏
Hoping & praying she is blessed with a loving forever home very soon ❤️🙏
