The best thing you could do to help the dog would be to adopt her.
It would be kinder to give her a little place inside. What she does is beautiful, but she’s old now. Giving her a home would be wonderful for her. To feel the warmth of a home.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to adopt her?
Don Julio closes the store at nine o’clock at night, but he leaves the radio on until he reopens. It’s not because of thieves.
It’s because of Mona, the neighborhood dog, who has been sleeping on a piece of cardboard under the store window for years.
A year ago, she went blind. Suddenly, she started bumping into lampposts and losing her cardboard, and one night Don Julio found her standing in the middle of the street, not knowing which way to go, with a motorcycle honking at her.
He noticed something: when the store was open and the radio was playing, she went straight to her corner. Only when he closed did she disappear.
From that day on, he leaves the radio on the window, with the little antenna sticking out. She walks close to the wall, her head tilted to one side, following the music to her cardboard.
His wife already argued with him about the electricity bill. He turned the volume down one night, and that night Mona woke up on the opposite corner, trembling. The next day he put it back up.
Now they call him the radio maniac. He doesn’t care.
Don Julio is seventy-one years old, and all he says is that the day he’s gone, nobody’s going to leave that radio on.
It would be better if he let her sleep at the store or at his house 🙁
