The bag of food was all she had left in the world. And then her rescuers showed up and her life changed.
In late March, a woman driving past Moores Park in Lansing, Michigan, noticed a young terrier mix sitting beside a bag of dog food. Hoping her owner would return, the woman’s husband stayed with her. But no one came.
As the [fr.ighte.ned] dog began wandering toward the road, the couple contacted Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter. An officer soon arrived and brought her to safety.
Named Lola Lopp, the six-month-old puppy appeared to be in relatively good physical health, but she was [s.ca.red] and overwhelmed by her unfamiliar surroundings. At first, she struggled to trust people. With patience and gentle care, however, her sweet personality began to emerge. Once she felt safe, Lola loved curling up in someone’s lap and receiving affection.
When the shelter shared her heartbreaking story on Fb, thousands of people reacted with sympathy and support. Many were touched by the image of a little dog staying beside the only thing she had been left with—a bag of food.
Thankfully, Lola’s story is taking a hopeful turn. She is now living in a foster-to-adopt home, where she has adjusted remarkably well and may soon find her forever family.
