Gray wolves were Hu.nt.ed to Ex.tinc.tion in Colorado by the 1940s!

The environment is dependent on wolves for ecological balance.

How can we LOVE our dogs and not recognized the similarities to dogs!

For eight decades, the state had no apex [pr.eda.tor]. Its rivers, forests, and grazing lands shifted in their absence — quietly, incrementally, in ways that took years to measure.
In November 2020, Coloradans voted to bring them back.

The first wolves arrived from Oregon in December 2023. More followed from British Columbia in January 2025. By spring of that year, four packs had established territories across Colorado’s northwest — the Copper Creek Pack in Pitkin County, the King Mountain Pack in Routt County, the One Ear Pack in Jackson County, and the Three Creeks Pack in Rio Blanco County. All four bred. At least 14 pups were born in April 2025, across all four dens.

As of March 2026, Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed a minimum of 32 wolves in the state — roughly double the count from the previous year. Twenty-four live within the four established packs. Eight are moving solo, still finding their place.

The recovery has not been without loss. Several reintroduced wolves have [di.ed] — from vehicle collisions, [i.ll.ne.ss], and [co.nfl.ict]. Ranchers in affected counties have raised legitimate concerns about livestock, and the state has paid out compensation and deployed range riders to reduce [co.nfl.ict]. These tensions are part of every wolf reintroduction in history. They do not have simple answers.

What is simpler to state: wolves are denning in Colorado. Pups born in 2025 survived their first winter. Four packs held their territories through the year.
Eighty years of absence. Fourteen pups. A ballot measure. And somewhere in the high country of northwest Colorado, a wolf that was born wild is raising the next generation.

They have proven that they are a key part to the ecosystem.
Should just keep it quite n protected so they can survive.
