Often overlooked are the arrangements for someone to know about special pets with elderly owners.
Glad someone did come to the rescue.
After her owner [pa.ss.ed aw.ay], the 40-year-old yellow-naped Amazon was [le.ft] alone in the house for nearly two weeks. When she was finally found and rushed to Marin Humane, she was [ba.rely] holding on.
Debbie could barely stand and was weak, thin, and medically fragile—likely surviving on bits of food she had previously dropped in her cage. She needed constant support, from special perches and padded spaces to heat, lighting, and careful handling.
At first, she was too [ex.hau.sted] to show much personality at all.
But slowly… something beautiful began to happen.
As her body healed, Debbie’s spirit came back too.
As she began to feel better and stronger, she got brighter and a “bit more sassy.”
Once she moved into a foster home with Carina, her transformation continued. At first, Debbie would quietly hunch over and hiss—but with patience (and a little strategic corn!), she began to trust again.
Soon, she was greeting her foster mom with a cheerful “hello,” followed by a curious, “Whatcha doing?”
She loved sitting by the window, watching the world go by—especially the garbage truck—and made happy little noises whenever it was time to eat.
Despite her age and arthritis, Debbie was coming back to life in ways no one was sure were possible.
And then came the best update of all…
After months of care, patience, and love from her rescuers and foster family, Debbie made an incredible recovery—and found her forever home.
The fragile bird who had once been left alone and struggling to survive was now safe, cherished, and finally where she belonged.
A true testament to resilience, compassion, and second chances. 💛🦜
