Ticket profits for a cause: The money came from premium platinum ticket sales during his Armageddon world tour. Gervais made sure the extra cash from those pricier seats went to animal welfare groups instead of his own bank account.

Out of an initial 540,000 dollars handed out, a third went specifically toward freeing bears in Southeast Asia. Fans who bought a ticket ended up funding conservation work without even realizing it.

Rescuing the remaining survivors: The 180,000 dollar donation is part of the push to empty the last bear bile farms. These farms keep animals in small cages for years, draining their bile for use in traditional medicine.

The funds will help with: Moving bears from private farms to proper sanctuaries.
Covering long term vet care for animals with chronic health problems.
Building natural enclosures where bears can socialize again.
Paying for the legal and logistical work needed to shut down the remaining commercial operations.
