Sometimes we don’t need to fix our rescues, but simply to meet them where they are and provide them with a safe place to be who they are.

Goldie was surrendered because of significant anxiety issues. Including separation anxiety, along with counter surfing and then resource guarding what she obtained from the counter. Those challenges were too much for a traditional home. They tried training and other routes but nothing was working.

And the thing is… now that Goldie is with us, Goldie still counter surfs. She still guards what she finds. Those parts of her haven’t disappeared and that’s okay.
We didn’t bring her here to “fix” her. We brought her here to give her a safe place to simply be.

At the sanctuary, we meet dogs where they are. We work with behaviors, we provide structure and support but we also accept that some dogs will always have struggles, and what they need most is the right environment.

Luckily, Goldie no longer has to face separation anxiety, because here, she’s never truly alone. She’s surrounded by love, constant companionship, and a pack that understands and loves her very much.

She’s been with us for six months now and is thriving in every way. She is a staff favorite, a beach loving adventurer, and a perfect example that even “perfect” breeds like Golden Retrievers can have serious challenges.

Sometimes rescue isn’t about changing a dog.
Sometimes it’s about creating a safe place for the dog exactly as they are.
Due to her resource guarding and [bi.te ri.sk], Goldie is not adoptable but she is deeply loved, cherished, and exactly where she belongs. 🐾
