There is nothing better than spending a lot of time playing with your dog. The same is true for David Bahnson, a retired orthopedic surgeon from Vermont whose two favorite pastimes are traveling with his Golden Retrievers and Kayaking.
In 2015, he devised an ingenious way to combine the two: He built a custom Kayak with seats specially designed for his dog.
David converted the Kayak’s luggage opening into a perfect dog hole, not large enough for an adult but enough for his dog, Susie. He also made Susie a special seat belt.
When he got his second dog, Ginger, he made more room for her by creating a hole similar to the one he had for Susie. It’s similar to a three-wheeled Kayak.
And now David, sitting in the center with two puppies on either side, is adorable! 🐶🐶🐶
David was able to pursue his favorite hobby while the loyal dogs remained by his side, and the lucky dogs were able to experience the kayaking trip they craved.

Susie and Ginger have passed away of old age, but it’s clear that they had a very special time with their loving owners, and that’s all that matters. And now, David’s wife and her friends use the Kayak to bring their newest puppy, Piper, along for the ride.
He is taking his dog on a adventure…treating the dog just.like another family member.
