Bachelor Party Turns Heroic After Canoe Trip Leads to Dog Rescue on the Minnesota River!

Heroes, one and all!

So relieved they saved that sweet pup 🐾💖

A bachelor party usually means laughter, bonding, and a bit of adventure—but for one group of friends canoeing along the Minnesota River, the weekend took an unforgettable and heartwarming turn.

While spending a full day and night on the river, the group noticed something unusual along the muddy shoreline: a large, furry head barely visible above the thick mud. That head belonged to Ed, a senior St. Bernard who had wandered away from home and become hopelessly [tr.app.ed], unable to free himself.

The rescue story was later shared on Fb by Mitch White. It began when White’s nephew heard persistent barking coming from behind their canoe. Concerned, the group paddled back to investigate. What they found was a massive dog buried up to his neck in dense mud, clearly exhausted and in [di.stre.ss]. Despite being far from civilization and not having seen anyone else for hours, the group immediately sprang into action.

Using their canoe paddles as makeshift shovels, they began digging around Ed to loosen the mud holding him in place. At the same time, they called 911 for help. While waiting for emergency responders, the men focused on keeping Ed calm and hydrated, giving him water and sharing their lunch meat and summer sausage to help restore his strength.

Firefighters from the Carver Fire Department soon arrived. Captain Shaun Cox later told “The Dodo” that Ed appeared extremely tired and deeply [st.uck]. Although there was initial concern that the [fr.ight.en.ed] dog might react unpredictably, Ed remained gentle, calm, and cooperative throughout the rescue.

With the combined efforts of the firefighters and the bachelor party, Ed was finally freed from the mud and lifted to safety. He was placed in the bed of a truck so he could rest after the ordeal. Despite everything he had endured, Ed showed remarkable trust toward the people who helped him.

It was later discovered that Ed had gone [mi.ssi.ng] from his family’s property the day before. His owner had been searching desperately, unaware that the dog was [tr.app.ed] along the riverbank. The reunion was emotional and joyful. After a bath and a good night’s rest, Ed looked significantly healthier and happier.

Captain Cox said he was grateful the story ended so positively. He shared: I was happy to see them reunited, noting how much better Ed looked the following day.

What started as a simple bachelor party adventure turned into a powerful act of compassion and teamwork. The rescue serves as a reminder that kindness can appear in the most unexpected moments—and that sometimes, the best memories come from helping someone who can’t help themselves.

So glad he was rescued and praying that he doesn’t get any respiratory issues. ✨🐾💗🐾✨
