They really remember someone who’s good to them.

Hope the new owners will leave him/her some food outside.
Every night, a stray gray cat appeared on a homeowner’s porch, carrying something tiny in its mouth. And every night, it left the object beside the same old pair of slippers before quietly settling down by the door.
At first, the homeowner thought the cat was simply bringing home scraps of food or things it had found along the way. But curiosity eventually led him to check his security camera footage. What he discovered left him deeply moved.
Night after night, at exactly 11:40 PM, the little gray cat appeared at the gate.
Sometimes, it carried a dried leaf. Other times, a tiny feather or a small piece of cloth. Whatever it found, it carefully placed beside the old slippers near the front door. Then it would sit perfectly still, as though waiting for someone to notice its little gift.
There was something strangely familiar about this nightly ritual.
The homeowner soon learned that the house had once belonged to an elderly woman who had [pa.ssed aw.ay] several months earlier. She had lived alone and, according to the neighbors, spent much of her time caring for stray cats. Among them was a small gray kitten she regularly fed on the porch.
After her [de.ath], her family moved away, leaving the house empty.
But apparently, one little visitor had never stopped coming.

Every night, the cat returned to the place where it had once been welcomed. It brought its tiny offerings, left them beside the slippers, and curled up near the door. Sometimes, it stayed there until the first light of morning.
Then came one particularly rainy night.
For the first time, the cat arrived without carrying anything. It simply sat beside the old slippers, staring at the closed door and letting out a few soft, almost pleading meows.
No one came.
After a while, it lowered its little body onto the familiar spot, tucked its paws beneath itself, and waited through the night as the rain fell around it.
Something about that sight touched the homeowner’s heart. He began leaving fresh water and a dry shelter nearby, making sure the little visitor had somewhere safe and warm to rest.
Weeks passed, and eventually, the house was [sold].
Before the new owners moved in, the homeowner decided to check the security footage one last time.
And there it was.
The little gray cat appeared at the door again. It approached the old slippers, paused to sniff them, then sat quietly and gazed toward the window.

For a few moments, it seemed reluctant to leave.
Then, without leaving another gift, it slowly turned around and walked away.
It never came back.
Perhaps the cat had simply grown attached to a familiar place, a familiar scent, and the memory of someone who had once been kind to it. Perhaps it never understood why the door that had once opened for it would never open again.
We may never know what went through that little cat’s mind during all those lonely nights.
But one thought is difficult to forget: while the world moved on, this little creature kept returning to the one place where it had once felt loved.
Maybe those leaves, feathers, and tiny scraps were its way of giving something back to the person who had cared for it. Maybe, in the only way it knew how, it was still trying to say thank you.
And perhaps the saddest part of all is that the cat kept bringing little gifts to a door that would never open again.
Because sometimes, the deepest goodbyes are not spoken in words. They are found in the quiet footsteps of someone who keeps coming back, still hoping that the one they miss will be there.
