Craig Capehart and three other scuba divers were sailing along the coast of Pondoland, South Africa, [hu.nting] for sardines, when they came across a sight that they will never forget. It was a rare clear, crisp, co.ld, winter day, but they weren’t expecting any action, which is why they were all totally blown away when they saw a massive humpback whale breaching several times.
That alone would be enough to fill anybody with excitement, but before disa.ppearing back into the depths of the ocean, the whale gave them one last show incredible as a souvenir.
They look like they are having such a good time!
In a display of incredible power and grace, the whale jumped completely out of the water, leaving both Craig and their colleagues with their mouths wide open. A very rare event indeed.
The energy requirement of the whale is massive to lift its 40T bulk clear of the water. For every metre clear of the water they would need 40 x 2204 x 9.81 Joules, which equates to a little short of 1 Million Joules, that’s a lot of krill!!!
He has a bunch of muscle power; and he had to start deep to get that much momentum going!!!
Totally awesome that the humpback whale is completely out of the water!🐋 We’re Pretty sure they do it all the time. They were very privileged to see it first hand.🐋🐋
It’s probably not that rare for the whales to do this, It’s just that no-one else has captured the image before.
